Power on the plane
April 17th, 2008 | by Laurent FP |
Great surprise when embarking on today’s flight from Paris to Toronto. The plane was upgraded to the new cabin on one of Air Canada’s B767-300. Usually, AC interiors are known, as on most companies, to be very sober and lacking space.
I won’t go into all the details of the rearrangement of the cabin. There are just too many and you can see some pictures further down. But really, the single most important improvement is the addition of standard 110V outlet (with ground) on every other seat! Meaning my lame HP that usually allows me, on good days, 2 hours of work before dying can now stand the whole 8 hour flight. How exciting, no more switching between batteries, or trying by all means to cut its consumption by reducing the screen luminosity, killing processes, stopping services and devices.
Wifi is now the only thing really missing.
On a side note, there is a USB plug on the front panel of every entertainment screen. Anyone know what it’s for?
Update 2008-04-27: The guy sitting next to me on the way back from Toronto to Montreal had his mp3 player plugged into the USB slot. For recharging! It works also with phones (some of them I assume).
